Harvest Cake Competition

Our judge had a very difficult job picking the winners in our Harvest Cake Competition, thanks to all who entered. All enteries helped to raise funds for the "Seeds for Africa Appeal". Here are some of the class winners.

Harvest Festival

All the children gathered in the hall for our annual Harvest Thanksgiving Service. Each class made a contribution to the service. Many thanks for your generous support of gifts of food, which Y6 pupils distributed around the village.

Leeds In Bloom Summer Awards

Due to lots of hard work by pupils and staff over the year the school won Gold for the eighth consecutive time.  Year 1 pupils were presented the award by the Lord Mayor of Leeds in a ceremony at Harewood House.

Y3 visit to Leeds Museum

Y3 enjoyed a fantasic day out at Leeds Museum. The class topic this term is the Ancient Greeks, so time was spent looking at the display. They also looked around the rest of the museum. Here the boys try out some 18th century wigs.

Y5 dressed for the occasion, going back in time  to 1887, spending a day as Victorian schoolchildren. A fantastic day was enjoyed by all.

Y6 visit to the "Grand Turk" at Whitby

A brilliant sunny day graced Y6 on the classes trip to Whitby. Going aboard the "Grand Turk" was a great adventure. Making sand sculptors on the beach was also another highlight.

Y1 Mini Beast Project

Mini Beast mania has taken over Y1. The class has had great fun investigating Mini Beasts. A fun day at Nell Bank Centre had the pupils hunting for Mini Beasts.

Y6 at the Leeds Schools Tag Rugby Final at Headingley Stadium

After winning the area compitition the Y6 team played in the finals at Headingley. The squad played very well, having a good sporting attitude at all times. They are pictured here with Ronnie the Rhino.

Y5/6 Cricket Festival

A mixed year group team took part in a Cricket Festival organised by St Mary's at Pool Cricket Club. The team won the first two games, setting up a deciding match with Rawdon Littlemoor. In a very exciting game, Pool just lost by one run. Well done to all.

All-Day Cricket Festival

Year 4 pupils took part in an all-day cricket festival held at Pool Cricket Club. The day was led by staff and pupils of St Mary's, Menston. The rain could not stop the fun, everyone having a fantastic (and muddy) time!

Y5/6 Girls Five-a-Side Football

Shiver me timbers!

Y6 had a very interesting and exciting day when Captain Burwash visited the landlubbers. It was not a day for the lily-livered as the Captain told tales of Swashbucklin' and how the Pirates lived aboard ship. Yo-ho-ho!

Y3 visit the National Coal Mining Museum

Y3 had a fantastic day out at the National Coal Mining Museum. The highlight was a trip down into the mine. Here Mrs Worsnop and some of the class are ready to go down the shaft.

Netball Match

Our netball team had their first game this year against the Whartons, Otley. Although we were narrowly beaten everyone did really well and had a great time. Thank you Miss Willis and Mrs Damp for taking them!

Plus Puppets Visit

The children enjoyed a performance of "Aladdin" with John Ibbotson of Plus Puppets. After the performance, he showed us how to make our own puppets.

We were given lots of nestboxes for our Conservation Area by Wharfedale Naturalists. Here are some of our Y3 pupils putting them up.

Comic Relief 2009

It was madness and organised mayhem at Pool CE Primary on Friday for Comic Relief!  Every class thought of lots of wacky ideas and the whole school visited each others class to take part during the afternoon.  The event raised £273.97 and everyone had a great time!

YR visit to Cannon Hall Farm

Reception class enjoyed a day out at the award winning Cannon Hall Farm. The class had the opportunity to stroke and feed the animals. The highlights were the Llamas and the Kune Kune pigs.

Ancient Greek Day

Y3 held a Ancient Greek Day. In the morning the class took part in 'Greek Lessons' , higlights were playing Knucklebones and the Greek Alphabet. In the afternoon masks were made and everybody had a taste of Greek foods.

Speedmark Challenge

  The whole school took part in the "Speedmark Challenge", ex-professional footballers John Francis and Vince Brockie tested the children to find out who had the most powerful shot. Here Y3 are taking part in the fun.

Year 6 Bushtucker Trials

As part of their Topic on Australia, Year 6 at Pool CE Primary School had their very own Bushtucker Trial! They took part in tasting and identifying a range of exotic fruits and vegetables from Dragonfruit to Guava; Chickory to Sweet Potatoes all done whilst being blindfolded! To get into the spirit of being Down Under, they dressed up in beach gear for the experience. The challenge was organised by Leeds Catering Agency, trying to encourage children to be more adventurous in their choice of foods.....
